Cult of Horrors

Cult of Horrors We are the Cult of Horrors. We are a movie blog primarily, but the type of movies we deal with is not set. Though we have a special love for horror movies, we deal with science fiction, fantasy, super hero, or really any other movie you could see hyped at conventions. We watch them, we'll tell you if it's worth the trip.

Just saw the trailer for this today. It looks….interesting. It’s based off a parasite similar to Cymothoa Exigua, which is a parasitic crustacean which latches on the host fish’s tongue, eventually completely replacing it. It feeds on the fish’s blood and acts as a replacement tongue and really does no other harm for the fish.
In the movie, the parasite infects human hosts and feeds on it’s internal organs and eventually turns them into zombie like creatures, at least according to the trailer. The latching onto the tongue seems to be only represented in the poster. The movie has a very Jaws vibe to it, in that a bad thing is happening, and people are trying to cover it up to avoid panic. Eventually it gets out of control and people start dying everywhere. I don’t know if the deaths occur after the zombie transformation, or if it’s the final stage before zombie transformation. Things look grim for the little town as the end scene shows a doctor recording a message to recipients unknown, telling them about the outbreak.
I’m wondering if this is going to take a hard Lovecraftian turn at some point in the movie. Maybe this is how Deep One’s are formed, or perhaps the fish people of Innsmouth. It would probably behoove them to make it so, because just another zombie movie probably isn’t going to cut it.
